Australia’s first sporting equipment clip art gallery opens in Melbourne

The opening of a new Australian sporting equipment gallery in Melbourne will open next month.

The opening of the new Sports Gear Gallery, in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, is set to be the first of its kind in Australia.

“This is a first-of-its-kind piece of Australian art,” Artistic Director, Mike Kelly, told ABC News.

“It’s a beautiful piece of art, with a very distinctive design.”

The gallery, which will open in the CBD on March 6, will feature over 1,500 sports equipment clips, with the first 100 of which will be available in the opening of March.

“We have had a couple of inquiries from the general public, who want to see this piece of artwork,” Mr Kelly said.

“So we’re doing a little bit of testing and it’s very much a prototype so it’s not quite ready to go in the gallery yet, but we’re going to be doing a test exhibition of this piece in a couple weeks.”

“The goal is to have a collection of over 1.5 million sports equipment clip pieces, in terms of how many we can fit into the gallery and how many people can come in to see it.”

Mr Kelly said the Sports Gear gallery would be a “virtual museum” for people to come in and see the various pieces in use by Australian sports teams and their supporters.

“In terms of its use in our sporting activities, we are also trying to use this as a way to share this artwork and our heritage of Australian sports, the history of sport in Australia and also give people a sense of why we play sport in the first place,” he said.
